I've been Dj'ing for a few years, I started off playing Hard House and Trance but my style has now evolved to include Electro and Tech house infused with techno and hard dance sounds. I have played at various venues, the highlight of my dj'ing so far has been the Leavers event in Dunsborough in both 2006 and 2007. I started dj'ing to get people dancing to awesome tunes, and the crowd at leavers are the biggest party people I have played to yet! A veteran of the Beat Collective, Dev!ance has become a rising star in the dance music scene. Setting a new standard of electronic music in Perth with his eclectic selection of progressive sounds. Hosting his own radio show on RTR FM - Beats Per Minute and his own night @ Geisha known as "Coup D'House", his true dream is to enlighten his listeners to a new level of music appreciation. After consuming a musical diet of hard rock and metal throughout his teenage years, Taxman quickly became immersed in dance music once he began nightclubbing. He developed a love of the broken beat, and began collecting breaks and DnB records in 2000. After serving his bedroom banger/house party apprenticeship for two years, he has played in every major club in Perth, including Ambar, Heat, Rise, Base and The Velvet Lounge. He joined forces with Destination? Promotions in 2004 and assisted in the running of many big nights, before becoming a founding member of The Beat Collective. Highlights of his involvement with TBC include playing to a 3000 strong crowd at the infamous Dunsborough Leavers parties in 2006 and 2007. Whilst deep, driving, techy breaks have always formed the backbone of his sound, he has recently been delving into house, tech house and techno, enjoying a fusion of broken beat and four to the floor rhythms. He lists Elite Force, BLIM, Meat Katie, James Talk and Kriece amongst his favourite producers. Strange name. Seriously good music. Just ask anyone who has heard him play. It all started after double1seven was dragged reluctantly into an all ages rave during his early teens and although it took a while until his passion for underground music took hold, once it did, he knew it was the start of something. After getting booked for his first gig without owning a set of turntables and hearing his selection on a serious sound system for the first time, he was well and truly hooked. What started as an unhealthy addiction to drum and bass has become an unquenchable thirst for music across the entire dance spectrum, with a collection of music now spanning across nu-skool breaks, funk, hip-hop, electro and tech funk you should expect the unexpected. After putting his DJing aspirations on hold while completing his university degree, double1seven stepped back into the DJing arena in 2007 and before long his efforts, and undeniable talent, were recognised by promoters around Perth and the bookings started coming through and he has supported drum and bass artists including Perths own Shock One and Phetsta and Russias first lady of broken beat, Lady Waks. With more than enough skills to please whatever crowd he finds himself in front of, double1seven is so much more than your average dance music junkie. Born as Gustavo Rodriguez of Columbia, SA_spec or Adrian, as his friendsknow him has been a passionate DJ since August of '06. It all started witha solitary trip to the belvoir Ampitheater about 5 years ago when he waswitness to what most know as the kid kenobi and MC Sureshock live show @Breakfest. Amazed with what he saw and heard he took an instant liking todance music and the effect it had on the masses. Soon after fate would offer him a room living in a house with 2 DJ's andfrom then on it was clear he had found himself a lifelong love which grewfrom strong roots of the grunge and hardrock era of the 90's specificallySmashing Pumkin's, Nirvana, Offspring, Soundgarden, RATM, Regurgitator,kORN and Radiohead. His sound, whilst strictly without the boundaries ofgenre, is often of the melodic variety with strong vibes of funk andemotion that gradually drive his audiences from rhythm to chaos, much inthe same way he lives his life. Maintaining a healthy ability to laugh athimself, he's now developed a portfolio of experience in clubs all overWestern Australia, and a quiet determination to succeed. This newly developed determination, now fuels a desire to one day make apositive difference in both the music industry and the world in general, you can expect the unexpected as SA_spec slowly becomes what he hopes will be remembered as a man of principle, and a DJ for the people. At the helm of events such as YAC It Up (City of Melville's annual youth festival), Playlunch (high-school-touring DJ roadshow), and Electronic Combat (DJ competition), Miss Flea knows what it takes to put on a party. In 2006 Miss Flea co-ordinated 12 x DJs from The Beat Collective (DJ network based at Edith Cowan University) in a tour of Western Australia's south-west - playing 6 nights in a row at the Dunsborough Leavers Zone to crowds of 3500, plus a very hot afternoon at the Margaret River Skate Park Mess Fest. With the 2006 Leavers Zone hailed as a great success, The Beat Collective was invited back to Dunsborough in 2007 and, with the blessings of the Office of Crime Prevention, WA Police and the Dunsborough local community, The Beat Collective DJs proceeded to tear up yet another large chunk of paddock with the stomping of 4000+ WA school leavers. "TOO COOL FO' SCHOOL". Creating the ultimate Leavers experience is something Miss Flea has always wanted to do! Her favorite party tunes are breaks, drum n bass, happy house and psy-trance. You can usually find her playing hacky-sack at Perth's outdoor dance events (or on campus at ECU Mt Lawley!), and she's NEVER shy to be the first on a dancefloor. When asked about her future directions with The Beat Collective, she replied with Utah-Saints-confidence: "Well, I just-a-know that something good is going to happen..."
